A national testing agency has apologized to 18 New York high school students after their US history essays on an advanced placement exam were lost.
Newsday reports that Educational Testing Service administrators described the loss as an "isolated incident."
ETS says it scores more than 50 million answer sheets from AP and other tests annually.
Students at Center Moriches High School have been offered three options. They can retake the essay portion of the test, cancel results and get an $87 refund, or accept "projected" scores based on their multiple-choice answers.
Some of the high school seniors say they won't have time to properly review for a new exam.
ETS officials say the test answer packets arrived at their offices, but handlers could not find the essays.
